Scope of Work: Design and build of a 28 bedroom extension to existing Care Home, together with phased refurbishment of existing building and associated external works.

This two-storey extension needed to be safely constructed beneath high voltage overhead cables while ensuring the continued operation of the existing care home. A traditional construction consisting of rendered masonry insulated cavity walls punctuated by high performance aluminium Smart System windows with ventilation louvres and secure aluminium doors topped with an insulated single ply roof.

The 28 bedrooms were serviced by six WCs, three assisted bathrooms, two assisted shower rooms and two lounge areas with kitchen facilities. Further offices, nurse stations, stores and circulation areas completed the new build.

Extensive refurbishment of the existing kitchens, offices and communal areas commenced once the new build was completed and was phased to cause minimal disruption to the day to day operation of the existing home.

Externally, we re-landscaped the existing gardens to provide level walkways, discreet seating areas, gazebo, mock bridge and extended round to a triangular courtyard garden enclosed by the new building. A new tarmacked parking area providing 12 extra spaces, cycle stores and screened bin storage was also provided, and we overlaid the existing parking areas to provide a fresh new approach.
